Events & Observances
The year at Sringeri moves with the lunar calendar — through festivals of the Goddess, commemorations of the Acharyas, assemblies of scholars, and the Jagadguru’s own observances.

Sri Sharada Sharannavaratri Mahotsava 2026
The most festive season of the Peetham. For eleven days Goddess Sharada is worshipped in a different form each day, a Shatachandi Yaga culminates in the Poornahuti on Mahanavami, and the Jagadguru holds the traditional Durbar each day — a custom the Peetham traces to the time of Sri Vidyaranya.
Dates as announced by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham. Please consult the Peetham for the programme.

Guru-related observances
Honouring the Guru
Several of the year’s observances are devoted to the Acharyas themselves. The Vardhanti, the Jagadguru’s birthday by the lunar calendar, is celebrated at the Peetham with special worship. The anniversaries of his Sannyasa and Peetharohana fall in the dark fortnight of Ashwayuja. The Aradhanas of earlier Acharyas commemorate their Mahasamadhi — that of Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati on Mahalaya Amavasya, and that of Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha each September.
At the centre of such occasions is pada puja, the worship of the Guru’s feet — an expression, familiar throughout Indian tradition, of reverence for the teacher as the one through whom knowledge comes. Vyasa Puja on Guru Poornima honours the whole Parampara, beginning with Veda Vyasa, and opens the Chaturmasya, during which the Jagadguru has taught the Brahma Sutras.
The Jagadguru’s Vijaya Yatras — journeys to meet devotees across India — have been another part of his calendar: as Jagadguru in 1992, 1994–95, 2007, 2010, 2012–13 and, with his successor, in 2015 and 2017. Photographs of the Jagadguru are gathered in the Gallery.
